WELCOME TO
OUR WORLD
The Virginia Coal Heritage Trail officially begins at the Pocahontas Exhibition Mine in Pocahontas and travels 325 miles through seven counties. Each of the counties developed their particular section of the trail. Working with the communities along the route, it was decided to divide the trail into three parts to enable the traveler to begin and end their trips in areas offering amenities such as gas, food and lodging.
PURPOSE IS PRINCIPLE
The Virginia Coal Heritage Trail was developed by collaborative effort of the Heart of Appalachia and the counties we represent, including Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Tazewell, Wise, and Norton City, along with Lenowisco & Cumberland Plateau Planning Districts, Virginia Tourism Corporation, Dante Lives On, The Crooked Road , our legislators and many other community stakeholders.
